  • The tourist and economic impact of these events is reflected in the influx of visitors, the boost to local commerce, and the projection of Mijas as a vibrant municipality and a reference point on the Costa del Sol

Mijas, June 9, 2025.- Mijas has experienced a true celebration of classic cars this weekend with two events that have turned the center of the municipality into a showcase of history on wheels. The third edition of the Classic Car Meeting and the XV Classic Motorcycle Rally brought together hundreds of residents, visitors, and enthusiasts, consolidating what is already known as the Classic Motor Weekend of Mijas.

«Participation has far exceeded our expectations, both in the number of registrants and in attendance. It is gratifying to see how Mijas becomes a meeting point for classic car enthusiasts,» said the Councilor of Tourism, Francisco Jerez, who also expressed his intention to «establish this event as a fixed appointment in the tourist calendar of the Costa del Sol.»

Saturday was the turn of automobiles. In total, 39 vehicles registered for this edition, representing a 35% increase over 2024, when 29 participated. In total, 78 people took part in this event, demonstrating the high level of involvement of owners and companions. The Virgen de la Peña square was filled with models spanning several decades of automotive history, from popular cars to carefully restored unique pieces. Attendees were able to see up close vehicles over 40 and 50 years old in impeccable condition. The event also included musical entertainment, thematic ambiance, and an awards ceremony for the most outstanding cars.

Sunday was the turn of two wheels. The XV Classic Motorcycle Rally of Mijas saw 126 motorcycles registered and a total of 172 participants, in a day that once again exceeded the expectations of organization and audience. Throughout the morning, the Virgen de la Peña square was filled with residents and visitors who could admire carefully preserved vintage motorcycles, historic mopeds, and meticulously restored pieces.

Awards included prizes for the best restored motorcycle, the best-preserved vintage motorcycle, the best moped, the oldest rider —Sebastián Castro, a 86-year-old resident of Las Lagunas, who has attended all editions—, as well as special prizes such as a meal at a restaurant, a gift helmet, and an original award where a young person from Marbella won his weight in liters of beer.

In the slow race, the winners were Hugo Alarcón, a resident of Mijas who repeated his victory; José A. Rivera, in second place; and Ángel Lombardo, also from Mijas and only 15 years old, in third.

Regarding the classic car meeting, the top three prizes went to the vehicles best valued for their condition, uniqueness, and restoration. As an anecdote, the award for the youngest co-pilot went to Jorge Pardo, 8 years old, who participated with his grandfather, while his brother Carlos, 10 years old, did so with his father.

In addition to the exhibition, the organization offered a complete experience to the participants, which included commemorative material, a personalized entry photograph, or a full menu included with registrations. The atmosphere was unbeatable, with moments of camaraderie and recognition of the most outstanding participants.

Jerez also emphasized that these gatherings «not only highlight the heritage on wheels, but also energize the local economy and reinforce the image of Mijas as a destination full of life and tradition.»

The City Council expressed its gratitude for the involvement of the Mijas Classic Cars Club and the Mijas Classic Motorcycles Club, as well as the collaboration of local businesses and entities that contributed to the success of the event.
