Mijas, July 14, 2025.- The municipality of Mijas has once again shown its most charitable side this weekend with the celebration of the first ‘Golf Tournament for Life’, an initiative organized by the local headquarters of the Spanish Association against Cancer (AECC) in collaboration with La Cala Resort, bringing together more than a hundred players. The event managed to raise over 17,000 euros destined for research and programs to assist patients and families affected by this disease.
The Councilor for Tourism, Francisco Jerez, wanted to highlight the importance of this event, stating that «it demonstrates how sports, tourism, and solidarity can go hand in hand, once again showing Mijas’ commitment to good causes.»
He also expressed gratitude for «the tireless work carried out by the AECC and its team, both in research and in the care of patients and families, an essential task that deserves all our support and recognition.»
«It is a pride for Mijas to have been part of this charitable event, in which we have not only collaborated as an institution but also as committed neighbors to a cause that affects us all closely,» he pointed out.
Furthermore, Jerez emphasized that «Mijas is a municipality that continues to bet on golf as a tourist and economic driver. Proof of this has been the fantastic reception of this event, alongside the top-level events we host, contributing to boosting the local economy and reinforcing our positioning as a quality destination.»
The event also showcased the excellent facilities of La Cala Resort, one of the most important golf complexes in Europe, which hosted this event with the support of the business and social fabric linked to this sports discipline.
The Mijas City Council wanted to thank the organization, the participants, and all those involved in the event for their contribution to such a necessary cause as the fight against cancer.
