Mijas records a more than 5% decrease in its year-on-year unemployment rate in March

Mijas, April 4, 2025 – Mijas has registered a decrease in the year-on-year unemployment of 324 individuals compared to the same month of the previous year, a figure that represents a 5.11% decrease in unemployment, according to data from the Argos Observatory of the Junta de Andalucía. The municipality closed last March with 6,011 unemployed individuals, while in the same month of the previous year, there were 6,335.

These figures also indicate a decrease in the number of unemployed individuals compared to February of this year, with 46 fewer individuals seeking employment.

Affiliation Data

Regarding affiliation data for the month of February, the latest month with available statistics, Mijas has a total of 25,877 affiliates to the Social Security system, which represents an increase of 948 more affiliations compared to the same month of the previous year and 337 more compared to January 2025.

This information is based on data provided by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration, which details that employees under the general regime amount to 16,986, meaning an increase of 422 compared to February 2024 and 261 compared to January of this year.

The number of self-employed individuals has also significantly increased. In February of the current year, there were 8,563 registered, compared to 8,014 in February 2024 and 8,485 in January 2025.

According to Ana Mata, Mayor of Mijas, «these statistics demonstrate that Mijas is moving forward on the path of employment with confidence, and although our goal is to continue improving these figures, there is no doubt that our municipality is a guarantee of employability and progress.»
