Mijas records a more than 6% decrease in its year-on-year unemployment rate in April

Mijas, 06 May 2025.- Mijas has registered a year-on-year unemployment decrease of 364 individuals compared to the same month of the previous year, a figure that represents a 6.1% reduction in unemployment, according to data from the Argos Observatory of the Junta de Andalucía. The municipality closed last April with 5,613 unemployed, while in the same month of the previous year, there were 5,977.

These figures also indicate a decrease in the number of unemployed compared to March of this year, with 398 fewer job seekers.

Affiliation Data

Regarding affiliation data for the month of March, the latest month for which statistics are available, Mijas has a total of 26,438 Social Security affiliates, representing an increase of 569 more affiliations compared to the same month of the previous year and 561 more compared to February 2025.

This information is derived from data provided by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration, which details that workers under the general regime amount to 17,509, 97 more when compared to March 2024 and 523 more when compared to February of this year.

The number of self-employed individuals has also significantly increased. In March of the current year, there were 8,603 registered, compared to 8,114 in March 2024 and 8,563 in February 2025.

According to Ana Mata, the mayor of Mijas, «these are positive data that demonstrate Mijas is on the path of growth. Nevertheless, my government team will continue to promote employment policies, as the creation of new job positions is essential for progress.»
