  • The beach of Calahonda-Riviera joins Calahonda-Royal Beach-La Luna, El Bombo, El Chaparral, and La Cala and will have this important international distinction that certifies the quality of its services and condition

Mijas, May 8, 2025.- The municipality of Mijas obtains a new Blue Flag that joins the four it already had. This means that there will be five beaches with this Blue Flag distinction, which validates the excellence of their services and the condition of their beaches. Specifically, Calahonda-Riviera (new), Calahonda-Royal Beach-La Luna, El Chaparral, El Bombo, and La Cala will be flying these prestigious emblems this year.

The distinctions are awarded annually by the Association for Environmental Education and Consumer (ADEAC). To obtain them, a comprehensive evaluation is carried out on parameters as diverse as water quality, environmental management, safety, information, and accessibility. In the Mijas coastline examined, these requirements have been met, as announced yesterday in a statement issued by the organization.

For this reason, the Mayor of Mijas, Ana Mata, has thanked the efforts of the people who work on the beaches to maintain their excellence, as they are one of the main attractions from a tourist, leisure, and environmental perspective in the municipality. The mayor has recalled that the municipal officials and workers of the Beach Department «work tirelessly every day of the year to make our coastline a reference point.»

«Having a new Blue Flag is a source of pride and drives us to continue working so that the Mijas coastline is an example throughout the Spanish coast. It is also a very rewarding endorsement for all the workers who with dedication, effort, and affection carry out their tasks day by day,» stated Ana Mata. She also emphasized that several sectors involved also play a fundamental role in the maintenance and conservation of the beaches, such as entrepreneurs, lifeguards, cleaning staff, and police, to name a few examples.

On his part, the Beach Councilor, Daniel Gómez, also highlighted the fact that Mijas has a new Blue Flag, which is the result of «continuous and joint effort.»
