Moreno destaca el prestigio internacional de Andalucía tras reunirse con el secretario general de la ONU.

The President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, has held a meeting at the Palacio de San Telmo with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres. Also present were the Counselor for the Presidency, Interior, Social Dialogue, and Administrative Simplification, Antonio Sanz, and the Counselor for Tourism and External Andalusia, Arturo Bernal.

Moreno has valued this meeting as very positive and highlighted that it is the first time a Secretary-General of the United Nations has visited San Telmo, «something that demonstrates the enormous international projection and prestige that Andalucía has.»

In this way, he has stated that, for the past six years, this Andalusian government has decided to project Andalucía to the world, and this community has gained weight in Europe through its co-presidency of the Committee of the Regions, its presence at the COP, and in various countries such as China.

«The prestige and international projection that Andalucía has gained is channeled into influence, security, and trust, which means that there are countries that trust and invest in it, creating progress. Many authorities have wanted to visit the Palacio de San Telmo, reflecting the growing influence of this community,» he added.

The Andalusian Government supports the efforts of the UN to continue the fight on the front of solidarity, justice, and poverty reduction, in addition to supporting the Declaration promoted by the United Nations for the Sevilla Conference, reaffirming the commitment to multilateralism and including among its conclusions working together to achieve sustainable development in its economic, social, and environmental dimensions, eradicate poverty, and address global challenges such as climate change, conflicts, and inequalities, strengthen international cooperation, improve the global financial architecture, and close the financing gap, especially in developing countries, which amounts to 4 trillion dollars annually.

Andalucía works with the United Nations Program supporting these processes from a multilevel and multi-actor approach in countries like the Dominican Republic, Senegal, or Mozambique, and is involved with the European Commission, the OECD, and the LOCAL2030 Coalition in improving the territorial monitoring and evaluation systems of the SDGs.

The Andalusian community also aims to strengthen global governance by incorporating subnational governments and considering that local and regional governments play an important role in responding to numerous global crises.

It is worth noting that this community has taken on the co-presidency of the Committee of the Regions of Europe and has a total commitment to that participation in decision-making, as it argues that local and regional leadership and peer learning are key.

Regarding International Development Cooperation, it has a clear commitment, and since the creation of the Andalusian International Development Agency, workspaces have been promoted with the United Nations Agencies and interventions have been deployed in more than twenty countries within these partnerships.

Likewise, in 2025, humanitarian aid to the United Nations has been stabilized, being nominatively included in the budget of the Junta de Andalucía for the first time.

The Andalusian President has also met at the Palacio de San Telmo with the Vice Prime Minister of Vietnam, Ho Duc Phoc. This meeting helps to encourage cultural, economic, and business bilateral relations that contribute to development, as Vietnam is a strategic opportunity for expanding Andalusian companies and an entry point into the vibrant Asian market, with increasing commercial relations being one of the areas that need to be addressed.
