The Youth Department of the Velez-Malaga City Council constantly designs new lines of unique and original proposals and projects aimed at the young population of the municipality. Providing content to the leisure and free time of the younger citizens, in this case, with ages between 1995 and 2011, has become one of its main priorities. Under this paradigm, excursions to the Amazonia park or the Lobo Park in Antequera have been planned, the latter being a family bonding experience, in line with nature and our native fauna, which turned out to be a resounding success in community participation. Therefore, the framework of action focuses on the organization of multiple activities and events both in the locality and in different locations oriented towards physical activity, personal learning, and fun for the younger population of the capital of Axarquía. On this occasion, the new event projected by the Municipal Delegation already has a destination: the Torcal de Antequera.
The Councilor for Youth, Lourdes Piña, has informed this morning about this new activity embedded in Ocio Alternativo 2025, a recreational sports initiative that combines «hiking with contact with an environment of unquestionable scenic beauty and historical heritage value. In this type of proposals, we aim to promote physical activity through the interaction of our young people and, punctually, their families in the natural environment, thanks to the many locations of undeniable value and plasticity that we can find in our geography.»
On Saturday, May 17, a hiking march at the sunset of the Torcal de Antequera is scheduled, a free activity for ages between 1995 and 2011 and registered in Velez-Malaga. The group will be able to discover «the corners of a natural park of undeniable relevance as a historical monument.» Additionally, they will have access to an interesting complement, enjoying the magnitude of this location enhanced by the sunset and being able to experience a unique episode related to astronomy.

A Multitude of Excursions
Among the different disciplines included in the youth program are cultural and monumental visits, hiking, kayaking, diving, and other experiences. All of these are gradually being announced as they are finalized by the responsible Department.
The implementation of this and each of the upcoming initiatives of Ocio Alternativo 2025, with the close collaboration of the Provincial Council of Malaga and the Andalusian Government, through the Andalusian Youth Institute (IAJ), aims to «offer our young people alternatives that combine sports, learning, and nature,» three key elements «essential in the development and growth of a particularly sensitive population, as they are in a maturation process between the youth and adult stages,» hence, as the Councilor for Youth has pointed out, «projects of this nature are essential in a healthy and beneficial term.»
