Obras de sellado del vertedero de Líjar en Almería adjudicadas por 700.000 euros

The Ministry of Sustainability and Environment has awarded the works for the sealing of the inert waste landfill in the municipality of Líjar in Almería for an amount of 700,000 euros. The winning company is ‘Transformaciones y Embalses Parra, SL’, after completing the bidding process.

The Minister of Sustainability and Environment, Catalina García, emphasized that this project «is another example of the Junta de Andalucía’s strong commitment to improving the natural environment and the proper management of waste in the autonomous community.»

«From the Andalusian Government, we have taken a step forward in the restoration of degraded spaces. With the sealing of this landfill, we have reclaimed an area that had a high environmental impact and ensured that it will not become a source of uncontrolled dumping,» stated the minister.

The sealing of the Líjar landfill is part of the Andalusia 2030 Comprehensive Waste Plan, a strategy that has promoted the closure and restoration of old landfills to prevent their reactivation and encourage the environmental regeneration of the affected areas.

This project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and its main objective is to minimize the environmental risks associated with the inert waste deposited in this facility. The intervention includes stabilizing the existing waste, covering the land with sealing layers, and vegetation restoration, as well as implementing drainage systems to ensure proper control of rainfall water.

The sealing of these landfills, financed by ERDF funds, is part of a comprehensive plan that foresees a total investment of 20 million euros in the closure and restoration of landfills in several Andalusian municipalities in the coming years. This action aims to reduce the environmental impact in the affected areas, restore the land, and prevent the proliferation of new illegal dumping sites.

«With each landfill we seal, we improve the environmental quality of the surroundings and promote a more efficient waste management, in line with European and national regulations, and with the circular economy model that we have promoted in Andalusia,» she added.

The awarding of this contract represents another step in the work that the Junta has carried out in the province of Almería in terms of environmental restoration. In this regard, Catalina García recalled that recently, the sealing works of the Albox landfill have begun, with an investment of 2.6 million euros, as well as Castro de Filabres, with 1.3 million euros, whose execution will start soon.

Furthermore, «we are awaiting the award of the works for the sealing of the Berja landfill, with over 2.2 million euros,» she added. Currently, projects for the environmental restoration of the landfills in Bayarque, Uleila del Campo, Lubrín are also being drafted and the sealing project for Cuevas de Almanzora has been completed, awaiting approval.

«In Almería, we are working to address a historical environmental issue. Each of these projects brings ecological benefits and also benefits the residents of the affected municipalities, who will have reclaimed spaces for other sustainable uses,» she concluded.
