The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (MICIU) will promote entrepreneurship among scientists in 2025, at the European Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation, one of the most notable events for innovation and knowledge transfer in Spain and Europe, to be held between March 12 and 14 at the Palace of Fargă (FICA).
This was announced by the Director of Planning, Coordination and Knowledge Transfer at MICIU, Elisa Rivera, who participated on Wednesday in the presentation of transfers and the innovation ecosystem, along with the Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre; the Director General of Research Planning at the University Council, Loreto del Valle; and the Vice-Chancellor for Entrepreneurship and Business at UMA.
MICIU will be present through stands set up by the State Research Agency (AIE); the Center for Energy, Environment and Technology Research (CIEMAT); the Center for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI); the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC); and the Carlos III Health Institute. The aim is to carry out various actions that promote knowledge transfer as a driver of economic, social and territorial development and strengthen collaboration between the public and private sectors.
Therefore, AEA will participate in a roundtable discussion on public funding and in another one on 20 years of technological platforms, public team working structures, in which all agents of the Spanish technology innovation system are interested in a coordinated technological work field to identify and prioritize long-term research.
Over the three days, there will be a carousel of over 50 short presentations on the activities carried out by the technological platforms, the Somma alliance and AI itself. In addition, prototypes of centers funded by AII will be showcased. The agency is also a nominee for the X journalism awards for scientific dissemination.
CIEMAT will exhibit high-temperature superconductors developed at the center and used in energy accelerators, transportation, pharmaceuticals, and particles.
During the presentation of the IFMIF-Dones model, a unique scientific and technological facility in the world that will contribute to the new clean and unlimited energy model will be reported, along with the latest progress made in materials for future fusion facilities.
In addition, research staff will participate in various panels and meetings on precision medicine and advanced therapies, the future of careers in technology transfer and patents, emphasizing the presentation of a patent by researcher Marta Carreto, awarded in 2023 with the second prize for the best patent from a women’s inventory by the Spanish office.
Furthermore, research staff from the Biomedical Innovation Unit will witness the editing of genes for curing monogenic diseases using a microscope.
CDTI will have a space to inform about different investment and financing lines for companies conducting research and development. Additionally, a roundtable will be organized on optimizing public funding for research and development through territorial cooperation.
The presentation of the CDTI 2024-2027 strategic plan will also take place, where knowledge transfer is one of the priority axes.
On the other hand, CSIC will promote a catalog with the 100 CSIC technologies, gathering their knowledge in fields such as agriculture, biotechnology, electronics, energy, social sciences, materials, environment, chemistry, food technologies, ICT, and health.
It will also present the open innovation center «converge» and a series of prototypes resulting from the activities of knowledge-based companies.
The Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) was part of the jury for the journalism award organized by the forum for transfers, with 496 entries in various categories.
Additionally, it will contribute to its work and experience in the field of the European horizon, public innovation, science for public policies, global sciences, scientific consultancy, and scientific journalism in different scheduled sessions and panels.
The Carlos III Health Institute will have a fair space, providing visibility to its Knowledge Transfer Office (OTC) and OTC of various affiliated entities: the National Oncological Research Center (CNIO), the National Cardiovascular Research Center (CNIC), and the Biomedical Research Center (CIBR).
Moreover, the precision medicine impact infrastructure will be significant; the three research and development support platforms in biomedicine and health sciences: Scren (clinical studies), PNBB (Biobanks and biomodels), and articles (innovation and transfer), as well as the general sub-directorates of the Carlos III Institute for international research evaluation and promotion and international programs for research and institutional relations.
Additionally, the Institute will organize one of the sessions of the 2025 Transfer Program on Precision Medicine and Advanced Therapies, moderated by its Director General, Marina Pollán. Meetings and discussions will also be held with scientific and healthcare system agents on knowledge generation and transfer in health.
