Marbella will recreate the entrance of Fernando El Católico into the city on June 14th, with the participation of 80 actors and a group of falconers with birds of prey as the main novelty. First Deputy Mayor, Félix Romero, took part in the event presentation today alongside the President of the Cultural Institute Fernando El Católico, Ángel Álvarez, and its Vice President, Rafael Caballero, highlighting “the strong commitment of the City Council to an initiative that keeps the roots of our city alive». “This event not only commemorates a fundamental historical fact but has also become a top tourist attraction,” stated the councilor, who thanked the entity for their «involvement and work.»
This event, part of the celebrations of the Fair and Festivities of San Bernabé, will begin at 10:45 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation square with the reenactment of the city keys delivery to King Fernando El Católico at the Church square. The procession will then go through Salinas and Trinidad streets, passing by the Santiago hermitage and the Town Hall at the Orange Tree square. The royal entourage will expand in this sixth edition to 80 participants, compared to the fifty from last year, and will include a falconry show with a Eurasian eagle-owl, goshawks, a Harris’s hawk, and a golden eagle.
“This novelty will add a highly visible and historically accurate element, as falconry was a common practice in the armies of that era,” noted Álvarez, who added that the parade will also feature the presence of five horses and a mule, “which was the traditional means of transportation for cardinals at the time.” Finally, he emphasized that the dialogues, like in the scene of the key delivery or the Christianization of the ancient mosque, “are based on chronicles from the period so the viewer can mentally travel back 500 years.”
