Recursos y plantilla insuficientes en bomberos: PSE alerta

The municipal socialist group in the city of Malaga criticized «serious deficiencies due to lack of resources and manpower at the service of the city’s real fire department, especially highlighted during the April outage.»

The spokesperson for the municipal socialists, Daniel Pérez, at a press conference at the entrance of the Central Fire Station in Marticos, criticized that «the mayor, Francisco de Torre, refused to double the firefighters during the ’28th of April’ outage, sending those who showed up during the call.»

Pérez stated that «from the socialist group, we will demand explanations from the mayor» because the PSOE will present a motion to the Security Commission, presented by Pérez with the socialist councilor Salvador Trujillo and the General Secretary of the Andalusian Firefighters’ Union in the province of Málaga and Milá.

He also criticized the lack of foresight and refusal to strengthen the firefighters during a major emergency situation, despite several professionals volunteering.

«Furthermore, the 080 and 092 phone lines for the firefighters and local police, respectively, did not work during the outage due to the lack of municipal maintenance on the generators. More than 100 emergency calls to the Real Fire Department were waiting while the tower did not authorize more efficiently,» he criticized.

Pérez described it as «incomprehensible that in a situation like the blackout, which affected hundreds of trapped people and various simultaneous incidents, an emergency availability would not have been activated to allow several firefighters to join in and relieve the reduced effort of those on duty.»

Salvador Trujillo, the socialist councilor who will defend the motion, reminded that the Malaga firefighters «have been on strike for over eight years without the Municipal Council agreeing to negotiate.»

«There was no political will. The outage was the tipping point: no activation protocols for personnel, no maintenance on the generators, no emergency phones. Neither 080 nor 092 worked because the generators failed due to lack of maintenance in 2022.»

«The 112 line worked, but communication with the municipal agents of the local police or firefighters did not work, so the 112 technicians had to send written notifications in the police cars to reach the fire stations, to activate emergency and rescue devices, due to the lack of maintenance.»

He also criticized the recent tool theft at the Churriani Fire Station due to lack of supervision and the fact that Bell Park, costing around two million euros, remains closed, leaving a large area of the city without coverage.

Andrés Millán, the General Secretary of the Andalusian Union in Málaga, mentioned that «we have trucks over 20 years old, rusted on the outside but with defective pumps and engines, homeless maintenance.»

«Brely violates with infrastructure»

On the other hand, Pérez defended that «the major infrastructure projects that marked the development of the city and the province have always been carried out due to socialist governments.»

He recalled «key investments» such as the second runway and the new terminal at Malaga Airport or the construction of Hyperronda. Currently, he emphasized the Spanish government’s «commitment» to the Future Coastal Train, a project that will connect with Nerja and has «for the first time a study on economic and financial viability due to the push from the Socialist Executive.»

Pérez emphasized that this is a «major project investment» for mobility in Costa del Sol, while criticizing the President of the Andalusian Government, Juanma Moreno, for turning his back on Malaga.

Therefore, Pérez urged Moreno to «fulfill promises, such as improving the Guadalhori highway (A-357), which should be extended and effectively connected to the ring road, as promised by the President of Andalusia.»

Pérez also highlighted that Moreno «promised to extend the metro to PTA, a promise that remains without an execution date.» Finally, he criticized the Board for the lack of progress in the macro-hospital in Malaga.

RESIDENCE

Finally, Pérez stated that «the latest appearance of the mayor, Minipisses of Torre, is not the solution to the housing crisis in Malaga,» referring to the proposal to contain the housing crisis in the capital by building houses between 35 and 40 square meters. According to the socialist, «this does not meet the real needs of families.»

Similarly, Pérez warned that Malaga «is still immersed in a speculative bubble where acquisitions and rental prices continue to rise» and pointed out that «the growth of tourist homes displaces Malaga families in the traditional rental market»:

«Tourism should go to hotels, not to the apartments where our neighbors have to live. Paco de Torre Launches, but no solutions. It’s time to stop deceiving people. Malaga needs homes to live in, not to speculate,» he concluded.
