The Museum of Contemporary Spanish Engraving will host a tribute to the guitarist from Marbella, Antonio Morilla, on Tuesday, the 25th, at 7:00 p.m., marking the start of the new cycle of flamenco recitals ‘Flamenco en el museo’, which will take place on the last Tuesdays of March, April, and May, focusing on this instrument. The concert will feature the artist Paco Javier Jimeno from Estepona, one of the most acclaimed guitarists of today, and the collaboration of the singer Ana Fargas, born in the same town.
This tribute will celebrate the life of the musician, who passed away in Marbella in 2013 at the age of 59. Son of Salvador Morilla and Paquita Martín, he was one of the last students of Niño Ricardo and himself became a teacher to students as prominent as Paco Javier Jimeno. He accompanied the most prestigious flamenco singers at festivals throughout Andalucía, being sought after by flamenco clubs for his personal, clean, and confident style that conveyed emotion to all who listened. In 1983, he signed the constitutional act of the Peña Flamenca Sierra Blanca, which is assisting in this initiative.
Throughout his professional career, he performed numerous concerts at the tablao Fiesta de Manolita Cano, Ana María, and La Cañeta in Marbella, and was the director of the flamenco group at the now-closed restaurant El Oasis, where Spain’s most important artists performed. Additionally, he traveled as a soloist to several European countries and resided in Vienna, where he taught classes at the university.
The entrance to the concert is free and must be obtained in advance at the museum, with a maximum of two people, starting tomorrow, Friday the 21st, during the following hours: Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
