The good work of our productive fabric is evident in the report issued by the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia (IECA). According to these data, our municipal area exceeds 2,700 registered entities, ranking fourth overall in all of Malaga.
Based on these figures, the sector with the highest prevalence is services (70%), with a special focus on agriculture, which accounts for 14% of the registered companies, making it the second highest proportion in this economic area after Antequera. This reaffirms the importance of our farmers and sector companies for the economy of Velez-Malaga, where we work daily to create the ideal environment for their professional activities.
The Mayor of Velez-Malaga has given a "very positive" assessment of the published information and has reaffirmed "the commitment of this Government to continue extending our hand and making our resources available for the growth of our companies, as we have been doing up to now."
The Velez-Malaga City Council, through the corresponding Municipal Delegations, has woven a dense network of work for the enhancement and dynamization of the business sector of the municipality since the beginning of the term, almost two years into office. For this purpose, it has strategically designed various projects and initiatives that open new paths in the development of our companies, moving them beyond the municipal boundaries, as well as conceiving new ideas and training lines for entrepreneurs.
The path taken up to this date has been forged in proposals such as the Young Entrepreneurs Workshops, in collaboration with the Andalusian Youth Institute (IAJ), aimed at sowing the seeds for the future productive fabric of the city, with reach across the province. Additionally, other projects like Coworking meetings, oriented towards professional training for those who will lead the way in the economic sector in the coming decades, have been added.
These initiatives, developed to date, including in segments such as agriculture, which has an unquestionable presence and value in our locality, have resulted in the configuration of a commercial and business environment that is increasingly solid and consolidated in the capital of the Axarquia. According to the data published in the study conducted by the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia (IECA), Velez-Malaga is part of the 10 municipalities in the province of Malaga that account for 80% of the productive fabric of the province.
Delving into the figures derived from the IECA report, we can see that as of today, a total of 59,218 companies are registered with Social Security in the province, of which 47,200 entities belong to that group of 10 localities, including Málaga, Marbella, Fuengirola, and Velez-Malaga. According to this information, the municipality ranks fourth, tied with Mijas, with over 2,700 companies subscribed to the Social Security regime. "We must value these figures very positively, as they indicate that things are being done well and that our businesses and companies are in good health, performing splendidly, giving life to the city and contributing to its progress," stated the Mayor of Velez-Malaga, Jesús Lupiáñez, who also emphasized the "firm commitment" of the current local Government to "establish the necessary foundations for our business sector to work under the best possible conditions and have access to the greatest number of tools to continue growing and leading our city to the forefront of the economy in the province."
The diversification of the business activities of the registered companies has a common denominator in the province of Malaga, as over 47,000 entities out of the 60,000 registered with Social Security correspond to the services sector, highlighting a reality that has been evident in our territory for years. Commerce and hospitality represent over 40% of the registered companies in the services sector.
Velez-Malaga, agricultural reference
In terms of agriculture, Velez-Malaga holds a privileged position, showcasing the potential that this segment holds in our local socio-economic environment. According to the data, 14% of the business activity in the municipal area is linked to agriculture, with the capital of the region being a national reference in the distribution and sale of subtropical products, as a differentiating factor. "These figures only confirm the excellent effort and dedication that all our farmers and sector companies put in, emphasizing the need to provide them with all the measures and projects that facilitate the development of their professional work."
Finally, it is worth noting a revealing fact about the economic strength of the services sector in the municipality of Velez-Malaga. According to the IECA, almost 70% of the productive fabric corresponds to this area. "I feel truly proud, and we must thank our entire business sector for their work because they drive the economic development of Velez-Malaga every day, and the results speak for themselves. We will not stop in our efforts to provide them with the most suitable environment to continue enjoying the good health they have achieved," concluded Jesús Lupiáñez.
