Vélez-Málaga takes a step forward in promoting emotional health among adolescents with the launch of the ‘Youth Agents of Emotional Health’ project. This initiative, coordinated by the Palante Association in collaboration with the Valeriana Association and AFENES, aims to raise awareness and train young people in managing their emotions, providing them with tools and support to face the psychological challenges they encounter in their daily lives.
The Councilor for Social Affairs of the Vélez-Málaga City Council, Juan García, emphasized the importance of the project: «We know that mental health problems affect a high percentage of young people and, unfortunately, many of them do not have access to the information or necessary resources to address them. With this program, we want to offer them a safe space where they can learn, share experiences, and strengthen their emotional well-being.»
For six months, the program will be implemented in several high schools in the municipality through training workshops on mental health, active listening, and empathic communication. It will also include art therapy activities and cohesion meetings to encourage dialogue and support among peers.
«It is essential that we normalize the conversation about mental health and provide our young people with tools to manage stress, anxiety, and other emotional difficulties. This project not only aims to educate adolescents but also empower them to help other classmates,» added Juan García.
The Vélez-Málaga City Council reaffirms its commitment to youth mental health, supporting initiatives that promote the well-being and active participation of young people in society.
