The proposal, aimed at promoting soloists and groups from Malaga by providing them with a platform and a showcase to promote their talent, will have its first stop on May 2nd at the Plaza de la Constitución in the municipality of Vélez-Málaga.
This contest, with financial support and promotion of the winners in their musical career development, will have its grand finale at La Malagueta square in the capital on June 28th. Among other benefits, the winners will have the opportunity to attend the welcome party of the Weekend Beach Festival 2025, held in Torre del Mar.
The event on May 2nd will turn our city into a musical reference point in the province, and will help revitalize the Historic Center with the presence of many residents and visitors at the musical debut of the contest.
Vélez-Málaga will become the venue for the first edition of the «Emmerge Málaga Music Talents» contest, an initiative orchestrated by the Provincial Council of Malaga to discover and promote new musical talents in the province. The purpose of this contest is to stimulate creativity and musical entrepreneurship among young people from Malaga, offering them a platform and a showcase to promote their talent and art.
Specifically, Vélez-Málaga will be the first venue for the preliminary eliminations of the event, hosting the first phase on May 2nd at the central location of Plaza de la Constitución. The Youth Councilor of the Vélez-Málaga City Council, Lourdes Piña, expressed her satisfaction at the celebration of events like this aimed at young people across the province and highlighted the importance of promoting young people between the ages of 16 and 36 who demonstrate special talents for music.
The launch event of this unique contest was led by the Deputy for Education and Youth, José Santaolalla, along with the marketing director of Grupo Mundo, Daniel Rodríguez, and Pepe Torregrosa, singer of the Malaga-based group Jarrillo Lata, who is the patron of the contest. The idea behind «Emmerge Málaga Music Talents» aligns with the shared policy of the provincial entity with the Vélez-Málaga Government, which aims to promote cultural and musical projects among young people.
Vélez-Málaga, along with Marbella, Archidona, and Coín, will be one of the selection venues for the grand final, aiming to showcase new talents. The contest will evaluate young soloists or group members who seek to advance their careers by presenting their musical demos of any genre. Participants will compete for a prize that includes recognition and key tools for their professional development.
The deadline for applications started on March 24th and will extend until 11:59 pm on April 23rd. Essential requirements include musicians between the ages of 16 and 36, residing in Malaga, being soloists or groups, with 25% of them exempt from age or residence requirements.

Weekend Beach Presence
The four finalists from the elimination rounds will compete in the grand final on June 28th at La Malagueta bullring. The Malaga-based band Jarrillo Lata will play a prominent role as a judge and patron of the «Emmerge Málaga Music Talent» contest. The final prize for the winner includes a financial award of 2,500 euros, as well as the unique opportunity to participate in the welcome party of the Weekend Beach Festival 2025. Additionally, they will act as opening acts for a national artist at a Grupo Mundo concert, record five tracks at School Training studios, receive specialized industry advice, a promotional campaign valued at 2,000 euros, and a scholarship at a prestigious music institution. There will be a second prize and an audience award of 1,500 and 500 euros, respectively. Concerts will also be organized in various municipalities in the province of Malaga.
