Everything is ready in the capital of Axarquía to host a new edition of the prestigious International Guitar Festival «Ciudad de Vélez-Málaga.» This marks the thirty-fourth edition of an event that has already established itself in the cultural landscape of the country, with an excellent reputation, attracting a large number of guitar enthusiasts every year. Once again, the Marqués de Beniel Palace and the Carmen Theater will be the ideal venues for a very comprehensive musical program from July 10 to 13.
The Vélez-Málaga City Council, through the Department of Culture and Historical Heritage, continues to promote and schedule numerous high-quality cultural activities for all audiences. With the arrival of July, one of the most anticipated and followed events in this thematic line returns, the popular International Guitar Festival. The Department has meticulously prepared a varied program to delight the most devoted guitar enthusiasts. Over four days, at the same time each evening starting at 9:30 PM, nationally and internationally renowned artists in the field of string instruments will showcase their talent.
Councilwoman of Culture of the Vélez-Málaga City Council, Alicia Ramírez, and the Festival Director, Javier García, presented the program of this well-established event to the media today. The event has been successfully held in the municipality for decades, attracting a loyal audience that marks this event on their cultural calendar every year.
«We have worked diligently at the Department of Culture to meet the expectations of this highly anticipated event and create a dream scenario through an extensive program featuring well-known artists in the country with a documented career in guitar art,» expressed the enthusiastic cultural councilor, Ramírez. She sees this awaited event as an opportunity «to celebrate art and music in our municipality, to continue our tradition, and keep alive the most successful cultural events due to their trajectory.»
On the other hand, Festival Director Javier García thanked Ramírez for the Department’s commitment to maintaining the event’s quality and supporting a new edition. «We have devised a plan to reach all audiences, satisfy the interests of guitar enthusiasts, and deliver emotional and entertaining performances.» García also highlighted the historical aspect of this event, which has allowed the best guitarists and young talents to parade through the Axarquía capital for 34 years, making Vélez-Málaga a true guitar history hub. He expressed his satisfaction at «having the opportunity to be here again with this special event.»
Program of Worship
The Festival will kick off on Thursday, July 10, at 9:30 PM (the same time for all performances) with the inaugural concert. Artists Alessandro Deiana and Alberto Cesaraccio, known as Dúo Elipsis, on guitar and oboe, will be responsible for captivating the audience.
The following day, July 11, Pedro Navarro and Toni Porcar will take the stage with a flamenco show titled «Dedos con Duende.» On Saturday, July 12, it will be the turn of Dúo LABohème, formed by Annamaria Carroni and Giuseppe Zinchiri, with the event «Danzas del Mundo para Flauta y Guitarra.» These three performances will take place at the Marqués de Beniel Palace.
Finally, on Sunday, July 13, the Young Provincial Orchestra of Málaga-JOPMA, with solo guitarist Javier García Moreno, will close the festival with the concert of Aranjuez and Spanish Music. On this occasion, the Carmen Theater will be the venue for the festival’s closing.
The event is supported by JOPMA, World Spanish Guitar Foundation, and the Provincial Council of Málaga.
